Nguyen Thi Thuy TRANG created the lovely embroidered items that you see on this website. Polio afflicted Trang's legs when she was five years old. Because of her inability to walk independently, Trang was unable to attend high school and unable as well to labor alongside her four sisters and brother on her family's little farm. So, at the age of eighteen, Trang travelled alone to the tourist town of Hoi An where, for the next eight years, she slept on the floor of various shops and in a homeless shelter while she learned the skills of embroidery and struggled to support herself.
Trang now lives in Da Nang, where she works with the Steady Footsteps organization in order to help other disabled people like herself. In her spare time, she continues to create lovely embroidered pieces such as you see here. Trang is delighted to finally be financially independent and able to help her family as well as assisting others in need.
